At Treeman, we source Turkish walnut gunstock blanks directly from Turkey, where the growing conditions produce the kind of density and grain consistency that experienced stock makers look for.
Every blank is hand selected. Not for figure alone, but for internal structure, grain flow, and long term stability. We look at how the grain moves through the wrist, how the blank will behave under the tool, and whether it will hold up over decades of use, not just look good in a photo.
We supply stock makers across Europe, the US, and beyond, custom builders, gunsmiths, and collectors who understand that the blank is where everything starts.
From standard grades to rare Exhibition Grade blanks, Treeman supplies gunstock makers worldwide with gunstock blanks they can rely on.
PREMIUM TURKISH
Walnut Blanks

And this is why East Anatolia has been one of the original sources for centuries, and part of it is just that some of these trees are old. You don't get a properly figured blank out of a thirty-year-old tree. The grain custom builders are after, fiddleback, marblecake, feather crotch, takes eighty years minimum. Often a hundred and fifty. It's the result of slow growth, root pressure, wind stress, and a tree that spent its whole life pushing through difficult ground. You can't shortcut that.
People sometimes ask how Turkish walnut compares to American black walnut (Juglans nigra). They aren't the same wood. American walnut is good honest stock material and plenty of fine rifles have been built from it, I'm not going to talk it down. But it's softer, lighter, and the figure rarely gets as wild. The two woods finish differently too. Once you've worked both, you stop thinking of them as substitutes.

People hear "Turkish walnut" and think it's a brand or a grade. It isn't. The wood is Juglans regia, the same species you'll find growing from the Balkans across Anatolia and into the Caucasus. Same tree the French sell as French walnut, the English sell as English walnut, and the old gunmaking books call Circassian. One species, different names depending on who cut it and where.
What actually matters isn't the label. It's where the tree grew up.
Walnut that has an easy life, good soil, mild weather, plenty of water, grows fast and comes out plain. The wood you want for a stock comes from trees that had it rough. High ground, cold winters, dry summers, thin rocky soil. Conditions that slow the tree down and force it to lay rings tight, year after year, decade after decade. That's where the density comes from. That's where the figure starts.
